Acts #33: The Church Empowered "Who am I to Stand in God's Way." (Acts 11:1-16)
Act 11:1 Now the apostles and the brothers who were throughout Judea heard that the Gentiles also had received the word of God.
Act 11:2 So when Peter went up to Jerusalem, the circumcision party criticized him, saying,
Act 11:3 “You went to uncircumcised men and ate with them.”
- Luke is making clear that people - Jewish Christ-followers - thought this Gentile believer thing was a bridge too far.
- They CRITICIZED Peter for doing what he did.
- This is not a friendly visit - it was one Peter was being called on to “prove” to them something they would have great difficulty accepting.
- It was a long-held THEOLOGY that God chose Israel.
- The idea that the arrival of Messiah might change that hadn’t come up yet.
