Philippians #26: Joy in Jesus: "The High Invitation" Philippians 3:12-16
- The upward calling of God
-
- The High… Invitation! is a better way to render this and apply this.
- “Upward” is more often translated “high” than “upward” but it is almost always “above” in the context of “heaven above”
- “Calling” is a Greek word who’s sole definition in Strong’s concordance is “invitation”.
- IMO, “calling” has a theological or “Christianese” language connotation to it, whereas “invitation” is not only more accurate, it’s a better picture of what Paul is writing.
- We are invited into this faith by God through Christ.
- An invitation requires an RSVP.
- An invitation also implies an expectation of your acceptance.
- An invitation also implies that the Host is excited and has great expectations!
- The High… Invitation! is a better way to render this and apply this.
