Philippians #8: Joy in Jesus--"Prayerful Expectation Pt.2: Living and Dying" Phil. 1:18b-26
There are many worldviews - many answers in the world regarding the question of life and death. Every human alive wants to know the meaning and purpose of life, and what happens - if anything - when we die.
- Buddhism says, "To live is to achieve good Karma, and to die is to hope for a better reincarnation."
- Islam teaches, "To live is to obey Allah, and if your good deeds outweigh your bad deeds, death is to achieve a personal paradise."
- Atheism ultimately defends the mantra, “Eat, drink and be merry, for death is the end.” Even though I know very few “merry” atheists.
And as much as we hate to admit it, the world - the lost - often views Christians’ view of life as “To live is gain, to die is Christ,” meaning we’re just living our lives as best we can, looking much like the world around us, happy to be saved from hell, but just waiting around till Jesus takes us home . . .
But that's not what Paul says: Phil. 1:21, “For me to live is Christ, and to die is gain”
