The Holy Spirit Throughout History #43: "The Spirit of Healing" -- James
The Holy Spirit - by name - is not mentioned in James’ letter to the 12 tribes in the dispersion.
- However, His POWER and presence is certainly taught about:
- Jas 1:2 Count it all joy, my brothers, when you meet trials of various kinds,
-
-
-
- You cannot do that without the power of the Holy Spirit!
-
-
- Jas 1:5 If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask God, who gives generously to all without reproach, and it will be given him.
-
-
-
- Jesus says it is God’s Spirit who gives wisdom
-
-
- Jas 1:22 But be doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving yourselves.
-
-
-
- And as we’re learning, early church believers were encouraged to submit to the Spirit’s power - to see what God the Father was doing and to engage in that - to avail oneself to the WORK being done before them, and to follow God in it.
-
-
- Jas 2:26 For as the body apart from the spirit is dead, so also faith apart from works is dead.
-
-
- Some translators capitalize the word “Spirit” to indicate James means the The Holy Spirit. Indeed, we are dead without God’s Spirit within us.
-
And in James 5:14, with our series focused on the Holy Spirit in each book, we see:
- Is anyone among you sick? Let him call for the elders of the church, and let them pray over him, anointing him with oil in the name of the Lord.
